GM IGNITION SWITCH RECALL
To date, nearly 200 motorists have been killed and 400 have been injured in auto accidents due to some of the faulty GM ignition switches.
In 2014, GM announced it would be recalling more than three million vehicles with model years ranging from 1997 to 2014 due to the defective ignition switches. According to GM reports, the ignition switches can easily move from the “on” position and cause the engine to shut off while the vehicle is moving.
Other electrically powered components, such as the vehicles’ airbags, can also be affected by the faulty switches. Many airbags have failed to deploy during a collision because of these defective ignition switches.
